2025 MLB Season Outlook and Predictions

The official 2025 MLB season begins on Thursday March 27, the first series of the year between the Dodgers and Cubs has already begun in Tokyo, Japan. So it is time to go over the expectations for each team, playoff picks, MVP, Cy Young, all that jazz. Let’s not waste any more time and get into it.

AL East

  1. Boston Red Sox
  2. Baltimore Orioles
  3. New York Yankees
  4. Tampa Bay Rays
  5. Toronto Blue Jays

Boston

After adding notable improvements to their pitching staff by trading for Garrett Crochet and singing Walker Buehler and with the expected improvements from Tanner Houck and Brayan Bello, Boston is going to be right back at the top of the AL contenders. Offensively adding Alex Bregman to add some much-needed right-handed pop and stellar defense put the icing on the cake for a great offseason for the Red Sox. With Baltimore and New York in questionable places at the moment regarding their pitching staff, the Red Sox should take full advantage of that and take the AL East. Record Prediction 92-70

Baltimore

Losing Corbin Burnes really hurt this rotation, and they didn’t seem to make any effort to replace him, their best pitcher to start the year will be Charlie Morton. Baltimore is in need of another starter I can see them sending some of their top prospects to Miami for Sandy Alcantara. Baltimore does have one of the best bullpens in the league, with guys like Felix Bautista and Gregory Soto. Offensively their lineup is great, although losing Anthony Santander will hurt them a lot more than I think people realize, but bringing in Tyler O’Neil who hit 30 homers last season helps fill that void. Baltimore will make the playoffs but miss out on the division. Predicted Record 88-74

New York

The Yankees lost Gerrit Cole for the season and Luis Gil is out for at least half of the year, they do still have Max Freid who they brought in in the offseason, but their pitching staff and bullpen is what will hold them back the most. Even with Cole out for the year losing Juan Soto for the year kills this team’s depth, having him after Judge to take the pressure off of Judge is what really helped the Yankees get to the World Series last year. They brough in Bellinger and Goldschmidt as replacements and the short porch will be there friend but the Yankees will lack offense outside of Judge. This is still a playoff team but I can’t see more than that. Predicted Record 86-76

Tampa Bay

The rays pitching and coaching is too good for me to put in last in the division, I think this team could surprise a lot of people because of how good Kevin Cash is a as a coach and the pitching could very easily put the team on its back but they have no offensive fire power whatsoever. Predicted Record 80-82

Toronto

The upside for the Blue Jays is 100 percent there, but the division is to hard for them. They have a very underrated pitching staff behind Kevin Gausman, but I think he will get dealt at the deadline or before then because this team will not be very good. They brought in Anthony Santander to give Vlad Jr some offensive help, but Springer is aging and Bichette isn’t what he used to be. It’s just an all around mid team in a very difficult division. Predicted Record 74-88

Al Central

  1. Minnesota Twins
  2. Kansas City Royals
  3. Clevland Guardians
  4. Detroit Tigers
  5. Chicago White Sox

Minnesota

The Central is really anyone’s game (except Chicago) Minnesota is just the most complete team. They are severely underrated their pitching staff and bullpen are great behind Pablo Lopez and Jhon Duran. If the lineup can stay healthy, they have the bets lineup in the Central, but that is a major IF. They such an incredibly balanced team I see them winning a lot of games. Projected Record 88-74

Kansas City

The Royals are going to be great this year, the pitching staff is going to dominate again but outside of Bobby Witt Jr, (my pick for MVP) the offense just kind of sputters and I think that it will be just inconsistent enough for Minnesota to take division although I could see it going either way. Projected record 87-75

Cleveland

The loss of Josh Naylor hurts this team a lot more than people will realize. The Guardians need pop in the lineup outside of Jose Rameriez, which they lack. The Pitching staff getting Shane Bieber back is huge and they have one of the best bullpens in the league with the best reliver in the league, Emmanuel Clase. With all of these central teams I think their pitching is really good and the offense is what needs work and Cleveland has the third best offense in the division which is why they are third. Projected record 83-79

Detroit

The Tigers were a win away from ALCS last year and like last season they will have a greta rotation behind Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, youngster Jackson Jobe is expected to have a massive rookie year on the mound as well. The offense is where the team falls, they have zero offensive fire power like almost every team in the division. I could really see any of these four teams winning the division and going to the playoffs it would not be surprising at all. Projected Record 81-81

Chicago

The White Sox are going to be pitiful again, they traded Garret Crochet and will probably trade Luis Robert at some point, they are rebuilding and will no win more than fifty games again this year. Projected Record 45-117

AL West

  1. Texas Rangers
  2. Houston Astros
  3. Seattle Mariners
  4. Oakland Athletics
  5. Los Angeles Angles

Texas

The Rangers will be back, this team still has all the pieces and is 2 years removed from winning the world series. The return of DeGrom and Nathan Eovaldi will power the pitching staff. With emerging stars Wyatt Langford and Corey Seager leading a deep and great lineup. The Rangers are just an all around solid team and the will end the Astros run of AL West crowns. Projected Record 90-72

Houston

The Astros have been so consistently good over the years that it feels weird putting them here and not first but that’s where we are now. Houston lost both Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman although they did bring in Christain Walker and Isaac Parades, two righties that will have a field day with the Crawford boxes. Cam Smith who they got in the Kyle Tucker trade is a young name to watch out for. The rotation will be solid as usual, but Texas is just a better team this year. Projected Record 86-76

Seattle

Seattle has four ace caliber pitchers, but they did absolutely nothing in the offseason to add to the offense that ranked near the bottom in every staff last year and because of that Seattle will miss the playoffs again. Projected Record 81-81

Oakland

The A’s are playing in a minor league stadium while the stadium in Las Vegas gets ready for the move. The A’s really have some solid bats in the lineup like Brent Rooker and Lawerence Butler, and Mason Miller proved how good he can be put of the bullpen last season. I expect a steady increase from the A’s but not that much. Projected Record 74-82

Los Angeles

The Angles are going to be very bad, that’s obvious. It’s a shame that Trouts career has been wasted there and he will be moving to right field this season. The Angles have very few bright spots in the lineup or the rotation, unfortunately for LA they will be sitting dead last in the tough AL West. Projected Record 62-100

NL East

  1. Atlanta Braves
  2. Philadelphia Philles
  3. New York Mets
  4. Washington Nationals
  5. Miami Marlins

Atlanta

The Braves are getting back their two best players from injury, Acuna and Strider. This is a team that won 89 games without both of them last season, I have no doubt that they will win more than that this season. The lineup is one of the best in the league when healthy. Chris Sale is coming off of a CY Young and if he can stay healthy and be a shade of how he was last year the Braves are in business. Projected Record 94-68

Philidelphia

The Phillies have a very similar returning team to last year, Turner and Harper will carry the load offensively. Zack Wheeler will be a Cy Young candidate, and they traded for Jesus Luzardo in the offseason to help the rotation. The Phillies have a tough hill to climb with the Braves and the Mets reloading in the offseason. Projected Record 89-73

New York

The Mets made the biggest splash of the offseason by signing Juan Soto to a massive deal. There are no questions about this Mets offense, Soto, Lindor, and Alonso are going to stand out and they have guys like Vientos who can step up and be the fourth guy to do damage in the lineup. The Pitching is where things so south, Clay Holmes is the Mets number one guy at the moment and they really lack depth behind and knowing that I can’t put them in first or second. Projected Record 86-66

Washington

The Nationals unfortunately have to play in this gauntlet of a division but this is a team capable of causing problems. Dylan Crews and James Wood are two young starts that will stand out this year and for years to come. If they can have a solid rotation Washington can realistically make a lot of noise in thr NL. Projected Record 75-87

Miami

Miami is blowing everything up, they traded Jazz last season and Sandy Alcantara will be gone this year. As the Marlines struggle through this rebuild so will their record. Projected Record 59-103

NL Central

  1. Chicago Cubs
  2. Milwaukee Brewers
  3. Cincinatti Reds
  4. Pittsburgh Pirates
  5. St. Louis Cardinals

Chicago

The Cubs added Kyle Tucker to an offense that could really use a guy like him. Pete Crow Armstrong is a menace in the field. Seiya Suzuki is getting better and better and the one two punch between Shota Imanga and Justin Steele will carry the Cubs rotation. Projected Record 88-74

Milwaukee

The Brewers have great pitching and great coaching and it would not be a surprise to see them win the division and make a run in the playoffs. Losing Devin Williams hurts their bullpen a lot. The lineup is really underrated on paper, Jackson Chourio is a rising star and Christain Yelich has been consistently good his whole career. It will be close between them and the Cubs. Projected Record 85-77

Cincinatti

The Reds are a super fun and young team. Elly De La Cruz is the face of the Franchise and a superstar in the making. With Spencer Steer and Tyler Stephenson on the IL to start the year that will limit the rest of the offense and the pitching behind Hunter Greene is very subpar. Projected Record 79-83

Pittsburgh

The Pirates are going to go as far as the offense takes them, and since they made little to no effort to build an offense in the offseason. Paul Skenes headlines a great rotation, and the reigning rookie of the year will have a lot of Cy Young talks this season. The Pirates just won’t have enough offense and the bullpen is not nearly good enough to contend yet. Projected Record 76-86

St. Louis

The Cardinals are in the process of blowing it all up and starting over. Nolan Arenado is expected to be traded and don’t be surprised if star closer Ryan Helsley is delt as well. The Cardinals have little to no life this year. Projected Record 70-92

NL West

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers
  2. Arizona Diamondbacks
  3. San Deigo Padres
  4. San Francisco Giants
  5. Colorado Rockies

Los Angeles

The defending world champs got even better in the offseason. Adding Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, and more. They have the best rotation the league, one of the best bullpens and not to mention they have four former MVP’s in their lineups one of which being the best player in the world. Projected Record 103-59

Arizona

The D-Backs added Corbin Burnes and Josh Naylor; two guys who helped their teams last year make the playoffs. The addition of Corbin Burnes makes the rotation go from great to exceptional, they truly can rival the Dodgers with their pitching. Josh Naylor adds some much needed pop and help for Ketel Marte and Corbin Carrol. Expect a lot from the D Backs this season. Projected Record 92-70

San Deigo

The Padres have such a fun team but if they choose to deal Dylan Cease things could get shaky. The rotation is shaky enough with Musgrove hurt and an aging Yu Darvish would have to pick up the slack if Cease gets traded. Although the offense should be good enough to propel them to the playoffs no matter how good the pitching is. Projected Record 87-75

San Francisco

The Giants made moves that they needed by bringing in Willy Adames and Justin Verlander. Adames will help this offense out with his power which is needed for the Giants lineup, Adames also provides fantastic defense. Jung Ho Lee is poised to have a breakout year after he had a solid rookie campaign. Catcher Patrick Bailey gives them some of the best defense in baseball and he is also one of the guys they need to step up with the bat. Pitching wise adding Verlander to be the number 2 behind Logan Webb was a good singing and the Giants have a great bullpen. I The Giants will be solid but they are in the same division as the Padres, Dodgers, and D-Backs. Projected Record 78-84

Colorado

The Rockies enter the year just looking for bright spots for the team’s future. Rookie pitcher Chase Dollander will hopefully provide that spark as he is one of the best pitching prospects in the league. Offensively they added basically nothing in the offseason as they look to load up the farm and complete the rebuild. Projected Record 65-97
