New York Giants Sign QB Russell Wilson to a One-Year Deal

The Giants have a new starting quarterback for 2025

The New York Giants have agreed to sign former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal worth of up to 21 million dollars. 10.5 million is also guaranteed upon signing according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 36-year-old immediately becomes the Giants’ new starting quarterback after New York struggled with consistent production at the position in 2024. The team also brought in veteran Jameis Winston last week to a two-year contract, who will now become the backup behind Wilson.

Wilson started 11 games for the Steelers last season after taking over for Justin Fields at the halfway point in 2024. Pittsburgh went 6-5 in his appearances as the 10-time pro bowler threw for 2482 yards and 16 touchdowns, while only throwing 5 interceptions down the stretch.

New York hopes Wilson’s accomplished resume will help the Giants return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022 and relieve the tensions in upper management. Fans are losing patience with general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.

The Giants franchise has records of 6-11 and 3-14 the past two seasons.
