The city of Philadelphia is expecting a new arena to be constructed by 2030, to host the 76ers, Flyers, and the unnamed WNBA expansion team expected to begin playing the same year. New arena renderings were revealed that will replace the previous Xfinity Mobile Arena (formerly known as the Wells Fargo Center) in South Philadelphia. The current arena seats around 20,000 for basketball and 19,000 for ice hockey. The new arena will most likely have a higher capacity. The arena has hosted many different sporting events over the years including the 2001 NBA Finals, 1997 and 2010 Stanley Cup Final, many NCAA Basketball games (including being the home of the 2016 and 2018 NCAA Champions Villanova Wildcats). The arena also hosted the 2000 Republican National Convention and the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The new design will have a large outdoor gathering space for fans to celebrate their favorite Philadelphia teams for years to come.
