The devil has found you, but how could you ever prepare for this? Did you read literature on Satanism? Go to church every Sunday? No. You watched a nearly 2 hour silent documentary called Häxan. That should work.
This interesting film speaks on comments so taboo even to modern society that it’s often a hard watch throughout its almost 2 hour runtime. One part that really stood out to me was the moment where Christensen goes through all the medieval torture devices used on supposed witches during that time. There’s a moment where one of his actors really wanted to try out one of the devices. While she could be laughing, this film being silent makes it seem like she is in a lot of pain. This goes along with many other moments in the film, where it’s silent nature makes it feel a lot more horrifying or creepy. The moment where we watch the modern woman get burned in the hot shower is even more freaky without the audio.
This film’s runtime is bogged down with all scenes of Christensen pointing at random textbook photos when I feel more of the runtime could have been dedicated to the actual filmed scenes. Which goes into why I feel this film is not meant for general audiences or non film majors. It’s for horror film fans mainly, which I feel could expand your knowledge for films like The Witch (2015).
