This past Monday marked the 130th anniversary of the Boston Marathon. Around 30,000 racers competed in the long grueling race for the chance to win the title or complete in the world’s oldest marathon event. This year with around the estimated 30,000 racers made it possible for the first time to have a 6th wave in the competition. The waves are meant to help separate the speed and competitiveness of groups as some race these for a living while others choose to do it for fun. Despite the colder conditions, racers still managed to push through their race and achieve something they had set in mind.
As this year’s winners are Kenya’s John Korir on the men’s side and Sharon Lokedi from the women. Each of these racers had defended their 2025 title and yet again they will take home another Boston Marathon win. In the Wheelchair division, Marcel Hug from the men’s side took home with his time of 1:16:05 which was close to his record back in 2024 of 1:15:35 and Eden Rainbow-Cooper in women’s had finished first for her group. The marathon is meant to commemorate Patriot’s Day which is the 3rd Monday in April. Patriot’s Day recognizes the Battle of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. Next, year will be the test if each John Korir and Sharon Lokedi will pull off a hat trick win.
