New York Red Bulls Fire Leadership

Guzman Named As New Sports Director

At noon of the 27th, The New York Red Bulls fired their head coach, Sandro Schwartz, and their sports director Jochen Schneider. This comes after a disappointing season, earning only 43 points and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2009. This ended the world record for longest conceived playoffs achieved by any team in sports.
During Schneider’s tenure he led the Bulls to a conference championship last season and helped bring in stars like Emli Forsberg and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Schneider left RBNY to return to his family in Europe.
NYRB also announced minutes later that their new Sports Director will be Julian de Guzman. Guzman was a Midfielder for Toronto FC and made 89 appearances for the Canadian National Team. He joined Red Bull in 2024 to manage RBNY II (Red Bulls lower division deploymental team). In just one season, Guzman transformed the team into the top team in the MLS Next division. RBNY II finished the season in first for the Eastern Division and are favored to win the playoffs. Guzmen is a promising choice for Red Bulls first team with the roster being one of the youngest in the league and having many promising homegrown players coming through RBNY II. This is a good start to The New York Red Bulls post season.
