Boston University, one of the powerhouses in the America East, decided this summer that it would be beneficial to them that they leave the Conference in every major sport.
Boston University Athletic Director Michael Lynch stated during the announcement, “We will be entering a league that embodies the ideal of valuing academics as the highest priority while sponsoring very competitive athletic programs.”
In response to BU’s departure, the America East has enacted their rule for any school leaving the conference and it reads: “Upon notice of an institution’s intention to withdraw from America East, the institution’s teams become ineligible, on a date to be determined by the remaining members of the Board of Presidents, to compete for Conference postseason championships.”
With this postseason ban, The Terriers can not compete in the AE Tournament at the end of the season for the sports that are involved with the departure.
This is the 3rd time in America East history that an institution left for the Patriot League and the 6th time that a school has left the Conference in the past 12 years.
