The online social network known as Facebook confirmed on Monday, November 8th, that they will be testing a new feature on their site that will allow business page admins to promote job openings and receive job applications from potential candidates. This is in an effort to compete against LinkedIn, which derives most of its revenue from paying them to search for recruits.
“Based on behavior we’ve seen on Facebook, where many small businesses post about their job openings on their Page, we’re running a test for Page admins to create job postings and receive applications from candidates,” a Facebook spokesman said in a statement.
This is not the only time Facebook has challenged other companies that already dominate a certain sector. In October 2015, Facebook also went up against Craigslist when they launched Marketplace that allows users to post furniture, cars and clothes to sell to other Facebook users in their area. They also took aim at Steam, a PC gaming platform, with the launch of Gameroom.
