Kevin McCarthy voted out of the House speaker role

The man self proclaimed to never give up has given up his seat as the House speaker after a majority vote to remove him.

Kevin McCarthy served the third shortest term in history, just 269 days and is the first to be ousted in the middle of a congressional term. The House of Representatives voted 216-210 for his removal from Speaker on Tuesday. Matt Gaetz is responsible for the vote, as he forced the vote on Monday night to try and take control during the newest looming government shutdown. While in search of a new Speaker, Rep. Patrick McHenry will take over as the speaker pro tempore, selected from a list McCarthy drafted and gave to the House Clerk. It is unclear who will take McCarthy’s spot, as he will not be running again, or how long it will take to elect a new speaker. STN will keep you updated with any developments on this case.
