If you were one of the numerous students that visited the club fair on September 3rd, you may have noticed the University’s brand new rotaract club. This Rotaract club is a local division of a massive organization known as Rotary International. According to their official website, Rotary’s mission statement is to “provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.”
Rotary adheres to this goal through a variety of service projects, events, and youth groups. Now that Rotaract is here, one such event is coming to the university. On September 28th, the South Cafe in Gengras Student Union will be temporarily transformed into a food packing center where Rotaract and another non-profit organization known as Feed America, host “End-Hunger”. According to Rotaract president April McBroom, there are plans to distribute 10,000 bags of rice and other foods to underprivileged people throughout the state of Connecticut.
In order to achieve this lofty goal, Rotaract needs all the help they can get. President April McBroom has stated she is welcoming anyone even remotely interested in volunteering for the event. This includes faculty, students and even parents. Rotaract will run the event from 3:00pm to 6:00pm with setup taking place at 1:30pm. If this interests you, Click Here to sign up.
