“Murder Hornets” have entered the United States

These insects could hurt the honeybee population.

A 2-inch long insect known as the “murder hornet: has made it’s way to the United States for Asia. The hornet also known as the “Vespa Mandarina” kills up to 50 people each year in Japan. The hornet can grow up to 1.5 to 2 inches with yellow-orange eyes, and a black and yellow striped abdomen.

According to the New York Times this insect could threaten the honeybee population. Researchers say that the hornets attach beehives killing the adults and eating the larva. This is detrimental to the already declining U.S bee population.

Researchers also say the hornets are most dangerous from late summer to early fall. The hornets typically do not go after humans but if they do there is not much you can do to protect yourself from the sting.

Youtuber Coyote Peterson showed what the sting is like on his show “Brave Wilderness”. In the video viewers can see an instant goose egg form where the hornet stung his arm. The youtuber claims that the sting from the Murder Hornet was the worst reaction he has ever experienced.

Researchers say the sting is painful and filled with neurotoxins. Even if someone is not allergic to the sting, multiple stings can be lethal.
